BESC is a not-for-profit organisation, not formally associated with either Nicholson Street School or any other School or P&C. Parents whose children attend the centre are Members of BESC, and pay a $5 annual fee to cover their membership.  

The organisation is managed by a volunteer Committee composed of parents from the two main schools served by the centre (Nicholson Street and FJT).  

The Committee works hard on a number of fronts to ensure that we are meeting Centre members needs as far as possible. 

These include:

  • Ensuring that we meet the legal and regulatory requirements of an After-School Care Centre (including fulfilling all requirements of the  Working With Children regulations)

  • Monitoring the financial health of the Centre

  • Providing a safe and secure workplace for our employees.


An Annual General Meeting is held in September every year, which includes the election of Committee members. All members are encouraged to attend this meeting and have their say in the future direction of the Centre. Volunteers for vacant positions on the Committee are always welcome!
